Located on the western coast of Gozo, in Dwejra, the dive at the Blue Hole and the remains of the legendary Azure Window is among the most spectacular in the Mediterranean. A true underwater temple where geology meets magic, and every descent becomes a journey into the primal beauty of a breathtaking submerged landscape.
🌊 Type of Dive
Shore dive, accessed via a rocky path leading directly to the natural pool of the Blue Hole.
Boat access is also possible from nearby sites.
Ideal for underwater photography, recreational exploration, and guided deep dives.
🤿 Required Experience Level
Suitable for Open Water and Advanced certified divers, depending on the depth.
Tunnels, chimneys, and caverns are recommended only for divers with good buoyancy control.
Freediving is possible in the shallower zones but is recommended only for experienced freedivers.

The vertical chimney starting from the base of the Blue Hole reaches around 15 meters, then opens into the open ocean.

🐠 Marine Fauna & Flora
Schools of damselfish, barracudas, amberjacks, and groupers are common in open water.
Near the walls and rocky remains, moray eels, nudibranchs, scorpionfish, and occasionally eagle rays can be seen.
Red and yellow gorgonians grow on deeper walls, creating photogenic scenes.

Visibility: Excellent (up to 30 meters) most months.
Water temperature: 16–25°C
Mild currents, stronger near the ocean-facing opening.
Caution is advised during water entry and exit, especially in rough sea conditions.
It is recommended to dive with a local guide, especially when exploring tunnels and swim-throughs.

The best conditions are from May to October, when the sea is calmer and visibility is outstanding.

The Azure Window, once one of the most iconic natural arches in the Mediterranean, collapsed in 2017 due to marine erosion.
Its remains now lie on the seabed, forming a fascinating habitat for marine life and a spectacular natural backdrop for exploration.
The Blue Hole remains intact: a natural pool about 10 meters wide, concealing a vertical chimney and an opening into the ocean—offering one of Europe’s most breathtaking underwater entrances.
